The Embassy of Bangladesh in Bahrain has been issuing Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) since 25th November 2011. Any Bangladeshi who is still in possession of a handwritten passport are hereby requested to apply for a Machine Readable Passport (MRP) as soon as possible because handwritten passports have been phased out and are no longer acceptable in many countries around the world -- be it for international travel or for visa/residence permit.
An MRP contains 48 pages and shall remain valid for five (5) years.
Prerequisites for applying for an MRP:
To obtain an MRP, a Bangladeshi applicant must possess either a Bangladesh National ID card or a 17-digit Birth Registration Certificate.
➥ Those who are not in possession of a 17-digit Birth Registration Certificate may procure one by sending a copy of their (valid) Bangladeshi passport to their respective city corporation, municipality, union parishad or by applying online.
The required documents and fees for the issuance of a new Machine Readable Passport are as follows:
➥ There is no written form. All applicants are required to fill up the application form online and take a printout of the submitted form. Applicants are also required to come to the Embassy for submitting the application as well as all necessary documents and the non-refundable fees in cash.
➥ Individuals whose smart card (CPR) details does not show any profession must bring a signed and stamped salary certificate from their sponsor/company.

Biometric Enrolment Process:
If the applicant is six (6) years old or above, then their fingerprints, electronic signature and live photograph will be taken in the bio-enrolment room.
Once that is complete, the existing (handwritten) passport(s) will be returned to the applicant along with a delivery slip. The applicant (or guardian) will then be asked to review the accuracy of information contained in the delivery slip before all form data and scans of submitted documents will be electronically sent to the Department of Immigration & Passport (DIP) in Dhaka where, after due police verification, a new Machine Readable Passport (MRP) will be issued, printed and sent to the Embassy for delivery to the applicant (or their close relative). Do note that police verification typically takes a very long time to be completed, so kindly contact the Embassy after every few weeks to learn about the application's status.
Delivery of passport:
The average processing time at DIP takes between 30 and 45 days, but as mentioned previously, police verification typically takes a very long time to be completed, so please be patient. Many applicants have had to wait for many months to receive their passport from Dhaka. Unfortunately there is not much the applicant or the Embassy can do to expedite the process, other than sending communications to the concerned passport department in Bangladesh.
The Embassy will sends an SMS to the applicant notifying the arrival of the passport from Dhaka and request its collection with the passport they are currently holding and the delivery slip. The old passport will be cancelled by an official at the Embassy and the new passport along with the old one will be handed over to the applicant.
Please note that:
➽ We do not provide "urgent" or "express" renewal or reapplication.
➽ The Embassy may directly call or send you an SMS to come on a certain day at a certain time if there is any issue with your application. Your application will not be sent to Dhaka (Bangladesh) for further processing until and unless those issue(s) is/are resolved.
